If it does not function properly
seepage could not only descend onto my land but could also
contaminate Hubbard Creek which is the water supply of the
town of Bowie, Colorado.
Item 6: Critical Wildlife Habitat
The Colorado Division of Wildlife considers this area
critical winter range for elk and deer. I can attest to
the importance of the area for these animals. The Division
states that the impact of the mine will be minor. However,
the Division did not consider the potential for geological
hazard in combination with the reduction of game range.
Item 7: Noise
Anyone who has lived near
attest to the associated noise.
from the mine activity, it will
noise.
Item 8: Conclusion
or worked in a mine can
With a cabin only 200 feet
be subjected to considerable
Due to the slope, the proximity of a dwelling, the
potential for geologic hazard sparked by seismic activity or
heavy precipitation, the potential for fire both subsurface
and surface, the potential for septic system malfunction,
the critical wildlife habitat designation, and the noise
pollution to say nothing of fugitive dust and the lack of
need for coal by the locality, I respectfully request that
this Board turn down the Limited impact Permit Application
of the Sunflower Energy Corporation to mine coal on Lot 3
Section 2, T13S R91V7 near Paonia, Colorado 8
Samuel Rea Je 1 Ph.D.
Wildlife Biol t
26396 Columbine Glen Avenue
Golden, Colorado 80401
