Depk of Natural Resources
OBJECTION TO THE LIMITED IMPACT PERMIT APPLICATION
BY THE SUNFLOWER ENERGY CORPORATION TO D1INE COAL ON
LOT 3 SECTION 2, T13S R91W near PAONIA, COLORADO 81428
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board
15 December 1976
My name is Samuel Rea Jewell. I own Lot 4 and the
SE1/4 of the NW1/4 of Section 2, T13S R91W near Paonia,
Colorado, 81428. I object to the LIMITED IMPACT PERMIT
Application of the Sunflower Energy Corporation to mine coal
on Lot 3 of Section 2 T135 R91W and respectfully request
that the Board turn down this request for the following
reasons:
Item 1: Cabin Location
biy cabin is located about 200 feet from the border of
the area to be affected. Due to the scale of the map
[Section 34-32-110 2d] submitted with the Limited Impact
Permit Application of Sunflower, a person cannot tell if the
area to be affected is more or less than 200 feet from the
cabin.
The proposed affected land is above my property. It
will be on approximately 3 to 1 slopes. Logically, the
outslopes of the development could subside onto my property
and possibly inundate my cabin during spring thaw and during
the high thunderstorm period from July through September.
During this latter period, soil and subsoil subsidence is a
major concern on steep slopes in the North Fork Valley.
There is ample documentation of large slides in the area in
recent years.
Item 2: Local Market
The market is stated as local. The local market is
definitely not year round. The FIawksnest Mine is using the
Juanita Mine tipple and is in operation only 3 days per week
or less for most of the year. The Bear Mine also supplies
local customers. Where is the local market?
