The surveys address both the <br />planned surface disturbance areas as w.~11 as sampling those. lands that may be <br />impacted in the.future by subsidence. The minor points raised by our <br />completeness review have been satisfactorily resolved by [he company. A total <br />of three archeological sites (two prehistoric, one historic) and suspect area <br />were recorded by tl~e survey. <br />Two of the three. sites (SGF74L - rock shelter, SCF742 - pictograph) are <br />recommended as being eligible Cor nomination Co the t7a[ionnl keg is ter of <br />Historic Places while the third (SGF743 - a historic homestead) does not meet <br />the criteria for eligibility. All of Che sites arc avoidable by direct <br />mine-related activities; however, some indirect impacts (vandalism) may <br />occur. To prevent inadvertent or indirect impacC and to afford protection for <br />presently unlocated sites this office proposes Chat the mine plan approval <br />contain the following stipulations. <br />1. If, during the course of operations, previously unidentified cultural <br />resources are discovered, the applicant shall insure that the site is not <br />disturbed and shall notify [he OSM. The operator shall insure r.hat Chu <br />resource(s) is properly evaluated in [cans of Che t7atiunal Register of <br />Historic Places eligibility criteria (3G C]~R fi0.G). Should a resource be <br />determined eligible for listing in consultation wiCh the OSt1 and the SIiPO, <br />the operator shall confr_r with and obtain the approval of the OS;1 and the <br />SIIPO concerning the development and i.mp lemcntation of mi.tigaCion mcasu res <br />as appropriate. If previously implannerl s•orface rlistnrbinF, acti•ai.CCS are <br />necessary, the applicant shall submit n justi ficaC inn and maps show ivy, the <br />proposed disturbance to the OSM far their approval prior to the <br />commencement of these activities. <br />
