Larry Routten
June 29, 1992
Page 3
any Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation
Service (ASCS) records for fields in the baseline
study area. Additional investigations will include
searches for State and Federal T & E species,
documentation of any special interest vegetation
communities, and any necessary wetland evaluations.
As discussed on June 18, production data will not
be collected in the additional study area community
types which are determined to be similar to
communities sampled in 1990. These include the
sagebrush, mountain brush, aspen, steep mountain
brush, alkali sagebrush/western wheatgrass, and
mesic drainage types. Production will be sampled
in communities not previously studied, if possible.
Some of these areas may have already been grazed.
Any required areas not sampled for production in
1992 will have grazing exclusion in place prior to
any grazing in 1993, and production sampling in
1993 will be as described earlier. However, cover
and density data will be collected this season in
all community types where required.
Sampling will be to adequacy or to the intensities
specified later in this letter. To show that the
above communities in the additional study areas are
similar to the 1990 baseline area communities, an
adequate number of random cover samples will also
be taken in the 1990 baseline area. The additional
area samples will be compared to the samples taken
in the 1990 baseline area using a T test to show
similarity. All data used will be from the 1992
field season. The sample adequacy equation will
use d = .10 and T = 1.64.
The following describes proposed sampling
intensities by parameter for the various
communities in the additional study areas.
Mountain Brush
Cover - 15 minimum, 50 maximum or to adequacy
Density - 15 minimum, 50 maximum or to adequacy
Production - not necessary if type is similar to
1990 baseline types
