Sherman
Executive Direcor
Ronald W. Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety has received responses to our initial adequacy letter regarding the
proposed Northfield coal mine located in Fremont County. The permit area is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections 11, 12, 13, 14, 22, 23, 24, Township 19 South, Range 70 West. The surface disturbance will
be located on about 20 acres in the SEI/4 NWl/4 of Section I3. Included in the revised materials is a survey
completed by Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. for the surface facilities and the subsidence sensitive zone.
From speaking with Angela Bellantoni of Environmental Alternatives, Inc. she indicated that she provided a copy
of the survey directly to you. Enclosed please find a copy of revised Map 7, Mine Plan that shows proposed
disturbed areas and the areas to be subsided.
In order for us to approve this application, we are required to make a finding that "the proposed operations will not
adversely affect any publicly owned park or place listed on or those places eligible for listing, as determined by the
SHPO, on the National Register of Historic Places, unless approved jointly by the Board and the Federal, State, or
local agency with jurisdiction over the park or place. We request your evaluation and concurrence in order to
make this finding, pursuant to the May 1991 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between our agencies.
Please refer to the MOU when undertaking your review.
Thanks for your assistance.
