Natural Reso~_rces
TO: HARRIS SHERMAN, SECRETARY, MINED LAND RECLAMATION BOARD
FROM: DR. JERIS A. DANIELSON, DEPUTY STATE ENGINEER
SUBJECT: SHERIDAN ENTERPRISES -HUNGER CANYON TEST SITE, GARFIELD
COUNTY, APPLICATION FOR MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT
As requested by your office, we have reviewed the application for an under-
ground coal mine near Mack. Page 35 of the application states that approxi-
mately 14.5 acre-feet of water will be required annually for cooling and dust
control. In order to provide this water, the applicant has obtained 10 cfs from
the Mack Pumping Pipeline. The water court decree (W-2052) for the pipeline
granted a conditional water right, but we have no records showing that this
pipeline has ever been built or has ever diverted water. Based on this lack
of information, we recommend that the Board require additional proof that the
applicant's water rights are legal and dependable before approving the appli-
cation .
~~
Danielson
JAD/SSH:mvf
cc: Lee Enewold, Div.
