• <br /> <br />2. Earth fill will extend intd each portal opening a distance of at <br />least ]2 feet. <br />3. Exposed coal outcrop will be covered with a minimum of 4 feet of <br />non-combustible earth material to protect against spontaneous <br />combustion. <br />4. A three (3) or four (4) inch pipe will be placed at the top of <br />the coal seam for both methane and water drainage from the <br />abandoned workings. <br />The procedures for permanent closure of the portal entries are shown <br />on Fiqu re 3, General Specifications for Permanent Closure of Portal Entries. <br />No drill holes are planned at the present time. However, if any are <br />drilled, each exploration hole, ot}icr bore hole, well or other erposed under- <br />ground well opening will be cased and sealed. The measures to be used to plug, <br />case, or manage exploration holes, other bore holes, wells or other openings <br />within the planned permit area will include filling the hole or opening with <br />cuttings or inert material until it is level with the surface. No holes are <br />expected to flow as a result of artesian conditions; however, if any artesian <br />conditions are encountered, the holes which penetrate these conditions or two <br />or more aquifers with significantly different groundwater quality will be cased <br />or cemented. <br />L J <br />
