Long
Division Director
I have reviewed the SCC responses to my comments submitted in the Adequacy Review for
the Yoast Permit Application. The company has acknowledged the presence of potential
landslides and slope stability which could affect future mining and operations, and identified
these areas on the appropriate maps. The access road to Pond 11 has also been eliminated.
SCC acknowledged the potential for some seepage to occur in haul road cuts, and presented
measures for stabilization of haul road embankments and cuts, should it become necessary.
As we discussed, the type of slope failures which could occur in association with the
presently proposed haul road would most likely be minor, or "house keeping" types of
sloughage problems. These would cause inconvenience to SCC operations, but are not
expected to be of a magnitude which could impact reclamation and post mining land use.
I have no further comments on the items which I brought up in the Adequacy Review. SCC
is aware of the concerns raised, and has addressed the ones affecting the first phase of the
mining operation. There remain slope stability/pit stability concerns regarding mining
blocks proposed for the future, and SCC is aware of these.
xc: Jim Pendleton
Larry Routten
