1, General Stratigraphic Column.
The Middle Coal Group is stratigraphically positioned between two
regressive sandstone deposits. These sandstones are expressed at
the surface as prominent cliff-forming units throughout the
Williams Fork Mountains. These bounding units are the Twentymile
' Sandstone Member of the Williams Fork Formation and the Trout
Creek Sandstone Member of the Iles Formation. These units are
considered the significant groundwater aquifers of the area.
6. Narrative Description - Exploration Methods
' It is planned to drill eighteen exploration holes under the
approved exploration plan. The drill holes are designated as
sites PDH-1 through PDH-16. Depending upon additional data
requirements, any of the holes (at its respective location) may
be twinned for the purpose of further geologic or hydrologic
testing. Each of the holes are shown on Revised Map 1, 1996 -
' 1998 Exploration Drilling. As provided above, the Notice of
Intent area is located in Sections 18, 19, 31, of Township 5
North, Range 88 West; Sections 1, 2, 10, 12, and 16, of Township
5 North, Range 89 West; Section 28 of Township 6 North, Range 88
' West; and Sections 20, 28, 30, 32, and 36, of Township 6 North,
Range B9 West.
Sites PDH-6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, and 14 have already been submitted
for DMG approval, and correspond to Sites A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
respectively on the original submittal.
' Drilling Operations
Drilling will be conducted during two consecutive summer/fall
seasons and may continue through the winter if necessary and
ground conditions allow. The drilling will be conducted by one
' and three rotary drill rigs capable of rotary drilling and spot
coring the coal interval of interest. The primary circulation
medium will be water with drilling mud. In the event that ground
' conditions allow, air or an air/foam medium may be utilized.
Water for drilling will likely be obtained from local stockponds.
Drilling operations are planned to commence during late spring,
as ground conditions allow (mid-May to early June). It is
currently planned that drilling will be conducted on a twenty
four hour basis in order to minimize the total time required. It
is anticipated that access road maintenance will be minimal, as
' the intent is to conduct the majority of the exploration efforts
during the dry months. Some road maintenance will however,
likely be required. In the event that mid-winter drilling is
necessary, gates specified by Mr. Haskins, of the CDOW, will be
kept locked to preclude public use, and any areas of critical
winter range for elk will be avoided as so directed by CDOW.
' Holes will be a nominal 6.25" in diameter and vary in depths from
1
