'the mine plan
proper was inventoried by the University of Colorado, DepArtnen[ of
Anthropology in 1975 (Lischl;a, 1975). The Lischh.a survey located a total
of eir,ht sites (6 prehistoric, 2 historic) and five isolated finds within
nr closely adjacent [o the Colocryo mine plan boundaries. Lisch4;a r?con-
mended further wurl. un sites 5r1J~501, 402, 403 and 404 for eligibility de-
terminations. The Goss:rrd rail loadout in the northern portion of the
nine plan was eaanined by Laboratory of Public Archaeology in 1978. iJo
new sites were found within the perm [ M undary. F.ar1y 1981 Western Cul-
turnl Resource Management, Inc. (IdCWf) conducted a survey on 1J5 acres of
land wLchlii n~,rthern portions of the minr. plan and located two sites (one
prehistoric, St11~1201 one historic 5r1F1200). They recommended [hat nei-
ther site was clirtblc Eor nomination to [he rational Register of His-
toric Places (NIt11P). The recommendation was forwarded to the Colorado
Sate Ilistorlc Pre servatton Officer where [he no[ eligible rconmehdation
received cuncurrenr.e. later in 1981, ldes[ern Cultural Resources aanage-
neut surveyed a half-mine buffer zone around the mine plan looking for
sensi[tve cultural resources that may be potentially affected by blast-
ing. This survey located one site, Sr1F465 consisting of a rock shelter
with "associated" rock art. 'dCR!1 considers the site to have National
Register eligibility potential but Eurthr_r work would he necessary before
a firm decision can be made. At present, mini n;, operations will not
inpact [his "site. -
(iSrl's Apparent Compleriess Revtow of ucllurnl resource inventories [hat
have been condncterl on and about the Cnluwyo mine plan raised several
~Iuestlons most of •.+hich have been resolved by suF.mission of clarifying
documentation.
