Dept. of Natur~i ~C;aurcr.~
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Approval for Sewage Sludge Application on Mine Spoils
Dear Bob:
In August of 1981, after consultation with the Colorado Department of Health,
CMLRD set up a list of general procudures for mine operators to follow in order
to gain approval for the application of sewage sludge on reclamation. In the
past months Colorado Yampa Coal Company, in conjunction with the Steamboat
Springs Waste Water Treatment Plan, have been assimilating the information
necessary to meet the CMLRD guidelines for sludge application on mine lands. In
the following attachment, you will find letters of approval from the Colorado
Department of Health, Water Quality and Air Quality Division. The body of the
proposal was prepared by CYCC and Steamboat Springs Waste Water Treatment Plant,
with each entity completing the guidelines related to their respective opera-
tions.
The approval for application of sewage sludge, as an enhancement to current
reclamation practices, is being requested as a minor revision to CYCC's existing
Permit 79-177.
If I can be of any assistance, feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
C LORADO YAMPA COAL COMPANY
~~z~~
em Parkin
Environmental Coordinator
CP/fc
cc: K.
