• listed in the vegetation section. The disturbed area
will then be dragged with a light drag (chain link fence)
to bury the seed.
Straw mulching will be applied by either mechanical
means or spread by hand over the disturbed areas at a
rate of ,two tons per acre. The mulch will then be
crimped into the soil by light disking or other mechan-
ical means providing equivalent crimping capability.
There are no plans for fencing of the reclaimed
areas, as there is not any grazing occuring in the area
at the present time.
As discussed in the vegetation section. cover would
be the criteria by which revegetation success would be
• established.. The baseline information was obtained from
areas of previous disturbance. with the results being
a high percentage of shrubs and annual weeds. The her-
baceous cover on the disturbed area. including the per-
ennial and biennial (orbs and succulents. is 10~. One
transect run on an area which had not been previously
disturbed indicated approximately 3~ cover for the grass
plants. Including the annual weeds raises this percent-
age to 15~ cover for grass-like plants. Again. most of
the cover (4~% by species composition) is provided by
the sagebrush.
Eastside Coal is proposing a 20~ cover for the
success standard at the Eastside Mine. The methods
• used to determine the amount of cover will be the same
methods utilized for the baseline information for the
118
