CHIMNEY ROCK COAL III IIIii~~Illill III
105 Cast Kiowa, Su'rte 200 • Colorado Springs, Colorado • 80903 • (303) 475-7005
Rl;CEIVED
July 6, 1981 ~~~~~ 7 .egg)
MINED LAND RECLI,MATIORNE9000. S
COLA. DEPT. OF L'u± U_RAL
Mr. David Craig
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Overburden Analysis
Dear David:
This letter is in response to the June 17, 1981 memo to
operators from the Mined Land Reclamation Division. A few
minor suggestions regarding overburden sampling parameters
should be taken into consideration. First, Ph, Alkalinity
and total dissolved solids provide the information necessary
to calculate bicarbonate and carbonate. Therefore, it seems
duplicative to require specific measurement of these two
constituents. Second, phosphate and phosphorous are very
closely related. Therefore, one questions the need for
specific analysis of each. Third and lastly, a member of
the Division described molybdenum content of overburden as a
problem associated with surface coal mines in the east.
Consequently, the sampling parameter was included on the
list to determine if such a problem exists in surface coal
mines in Colorado. It seems that sampling parameter requirements
should be supported with substantive documentation as you
are no doubt already aware.
Though brief, I hope these comments have been of some assistance
to you. I appreciate the opportunity to respond on this
concern. If you would like to discuss these matters further,
please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Iu~O~I /Y•~i~
Rade H.
