STATE OF COLORADO • •
Richard D. Lamm, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
James B. Ruch, Director
8080 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 802161297.1192)
RECEIVED
MEMORANDUM
T0: Mike Savage -"
Mined Land 1 ion Staff
FROM: Al Whitake~~
Wildlife Program Specialist
DATE: February 19, 1985
FEB 27 1995
GAINED UND RECUMATION DIVISION
Ca!a. DapL of Natural Resources
SUBJECT: Peerless Resources, Inc. - Coal Gulch Permit Application
File # C-84-067
Appropriate personnel from this agency have reviewed the above-
referenced application. We offer the following comments.
The Division of Wildlife has a 600 acre surface lease from the
State Land Board on the subject section. We purchased this lease
due to the high value of the area as wildlife habitat. Our deeded
right-of-way is approximately Z00 yards east of the mine entrance,
Although this is a very rough road, it must be preserved for pub-
lic access during the hunting seasons. Conversely, it must be
closed to public use during other times of the year,i.e, winter,
for protection of the wildlife resource.
IVs request that no additional roads be built upon our leased area.
Any and all surface disturbance caused by the mine should be miti-
gated by vegetation manipulation or fertilization on an area to be
designated by the Division of Wildlife. We will be glad to con-
sult with the applicant on this matter.
AFW/lls
cc: Mike Zgainer
Rich Sherman
Bob Tully
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, David H.
