Stein
1918 2075 Drive
Cedaredge, Colorado 81434
RE: Red Canyon Mines Public Comment -File No. C-034-81
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Stein:
Based on our phone conversations today and last Friday, it is apparent to me
that my letter of June 6, 1984, may not have been entirely clear.
The Division's proposed decision to approve Grand Mesa's application applies
to the proposed Red Canyon No. 2 ("D" Seam) Mine, as well as the existing Red
Canyon No. 1 ("E" Seam) Mine. The "D" Seam operation may be developed in the
next 4 years and one additional mine fan would be necessary.
The application does not contain plans or narrative regrading the "D" Seam fan
location and specifications. Prior to initiation of "D" Seam construction
work, a technical revision addressing the mine fan wit] be required. You will
be notified when the revision is submitted, and will have the opportunity to
comment at that time, if you wish.
Based on our phone conversation of June 18, 1984, it is my understanding that
your letter of May 31, 1984, does not constitute a request for a formal public
hearing on the Division's proposed decision to approve the Red Canyon Mines
permit application.
If you have any further questions, please call me at 866-3567.
Sincerely,
~~ ~~.~-
Dan Mathews
Reclamation Specialist
DM/ph
cc: Mr. Larry Reschke
Mr. Bill Tate
Doc.
