SOIL SAMPLE PIT N0. 1 <br />Location: West side of loadout facility in area maintained as <br />orchard as shown on the Soils Map (Map 7). <br />Vegetation: Fruit trees, native grasses, bare areas between trees. <br />Topsoil: Dark brown soil material containing assorted angular <br />rocks (composed of sandstone) about 4"-5" diameter. <br />Depth of topsoil 6 inches. <br />Subsoil: Not present at this location. <br />Colluvium: Present immediately below topsoil material. Coarse tan <br />to light brown material containing many angular <br />sandstone rocks, some several feet in width. This <br />material was present to the bottom of hole depth with <br />the amount and size of rock increasing with depth to 60 <br />inches thickness. <br />Hole Depth: 66" - hard rock was encountered which the backhoe could <br />not dig through. <br />Root Depth: 42" <br />Mottling: No noticeable mottling on rock or soil material. <br />Water Table: Water table not encountered. No water in pit. Soil <br />material relatively dry. <br />NOTE: Rock size, frequency and thickness increased markedly with hole <br />depth. <br />
