• Stockpiles will be seeded for stabilization against erosion.
Details of this are included in the Reclamation Plan.
2.05.3(6) Overburden
Experience%has shown that a portion of the overburden in mining
areas require blasting for removal. Overburden is then removed by
scrapers or loader and truck operation. There is approximately a 15
pie ell factor in overburden that has been removed in this area.
The overburden to coa ratio throughout the mining area is 6: 1. It is
anticipated that all overburden will eventually be replaced in the
active mining pits and levelled completely. There will be no disposal
piles left anywhere. Experience in Pits 1, 2 and 3 has shown a good
match of overburden replaced to coal removed.
A plan view of the mining plan is shown on the Mining Plan Map.
This map gives the dimensions of the surface disturbances that will
occur. The depth of the coal varies with the topography and the
inclination of the coal seam. The deepest point of mining (maximum
height of a highwall) will be approximately 70 f~~t. This will occur
at the first box cut of Pit 4. The dimension of this first cut will
be about 600' X 150' X 70'. Other dimensions throughout the mining
area will vary.
There are currently no explosives stored by The Rockcastle
• Company. A local explosives supplier hauls in the appropriate explo-
sives on an as needed basis. There are no buildings other than
Rockcastle owned buildings within a two mile radius of the permit
boundary, but a blasting schedule is filed as required in the local
paper. However, anytime explosives are being used, "Danger,
Explosives" signs are posted al on g. the haul roads into the pit where
blasting is being done.
2.05.3(7) Coal Handling Structures
There are no coal handling structures at The Rockcastle Company's
mine. Coal is loaded directly from the pit into coal trucks and
hauled to various tippling facilities in the area.
2.05.3(8) Coal Processing Waste and Non-Coal Processing Waste
The Rockcastle Company's Grassy Creek Coal Mine produces neither
coal processing waste nor non-coal processing waste. Therefore this
section is not applicable.
•
8-81 III-30.
