,• <br />June 23, 1981 <br />Storm King Mines, Inc., <br />3335 West 48th Avenue, <br />Denver, <br />Colorado 80212 <br />Gentlemen: <br />As you are aware, about eight years ago, a•brush fire <br />burned nearly the whole south slope of Horse Mountain, <br />much of which is owned by the City of Glenwood Springs. <br />The major problem in fighting this fire was the lack of <br />access to the area. By the time trails were dozed into <br />the area, the fire was out of control and had 'to be al- <br />lowed to burn itself out. <br />~,~ The burn area has now recovered normally and is cover- <br />ed by scrub oak, squawapple, etc. Your. drill roads across <br />the south face of the mountain give excellent access to <br />the area and would be invaluable in moving fire fighting <br />equipment quickly into place should fire again occur on <br />the mountain. <br />Therefore, the City of Glenwood Springs requests that <br />the roads as they now exist be left in place for fire <br />control purposes. <br />Sincerely, <br />Meredith Flinn <br />CITY MANAGER <br />~--- MF/ar October.25, 1984 <br />4-12h <br />
