RE: Technical Revision to Permit
76-16, Pit 3
This letter and the enclosed constitutes Energy Fuels Corporation's
request to MLR that a Technical Revision be granted to the Pit 3/Middle
Creek Mine Permit 76-16. This request is submitted in re:~ponse to a
commitment made by Energy Fuels Corporation to you on Marc}i 14, 1980;
and in response to Energy Fuels' desire to revise the mining and recla-
mation schedule, and to gain approval for certain changes in facilities
location and equipment.
Revisions to the Permit are as follows:
1. The revised mine schedule is shown on Map 1, Energy Mine No. 3 Mine
Plan, enclosed herein (See for comparison previous mine plan maps).
Mining activities will conclude by October 1, 1980, when coal to
the 65 Eoot cover line will be mined out. The original plan to
take coal to a highwall depth of 100 to 110 feet proved to be
exceedingly costly, economically unfeasible, and operationally
impracticable.
Regrading is virtually concurrent with mining progress: and final
pits will be filled in by April 1, 1981.
The Middle Creek Mine will be an ongoing activity, with need for
both a mine water retention area and a dump area fox roof rock
\/ disposal. As part of the mine roof stabilization program a foot to
/X two feet of weak rock is taken out above the coal seam in the
Middle Creek Mine, and this material is presently dumped into the
mined out Energy Fuels Corporation Pit 3.
