Cattany <br />Denver, CO 80203 Division Director <br /> Natual Resource Trustee <br />Re: Northfield Mine (Permit No. C-200tr085) <br />New Permit Application <br />Dear Mr. Matthews: <br />The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Title 34, Article 33, Section 118, <br />Parngraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 22, 2006, an application for a permit to conduct coal mining <br />operations at the Northfield Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as <br />provided in the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land <br />Reclamation Board for Coal Mining initiate from this date of filing. <br />The applicant Northfield Partners, LLC, proposes to conduct underground coal mining operations on land located <br />approximately 3 miles south of Canon City. The permit area is further described as follows: <br />Portions of Sections 11, 12, 13, 14, 22, 23, 24, Township 19 South, Range 70 West <br />Areas to be affected by proposed surface and underground operations are encompassed by the proposed Northfield permit <br />area located in south central Colorado in Fremont County. The Northfield permit area is located approximately three miles <br />south of the incorporated Canon City. A limited area for mine support facilities and portals, located within the permit area, <br />will be constructed on the north side of Chandler Creek. The proposed mine access and haul road leading to the facilities <br />area will intersect the right-of--way of County Road 79 a distance of 0.52 miles east of the junction of County Road 79 and <br />County Road I IA. <br />The mine permit area contains approximately 1,430 acres, bounded on the west by County Road 77 and its northern limit <br />approaches the south edge of the town of Brookside. Chandler Creek and County Road 79 bisect the permit area from <br />southwest to northeast. The eastern permit boundary crosses County Road 79 approximately 250 feet east of the entrance to <br />the aforementioned mine access road. <br />The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Canon City. <br />A copy of the application is available for public inspection a[ the Fremont County Courthouse, 615 Macon Avenue, Room B-5, <br />Canon Ciry, CO 8(212 and at the Division office.
