The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety hereby issues notice, in accordance with Ti[ie 34, Article 33, Section 118,
Paragraph 3 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, that on September 22, 2006, an application for a permit to conduct coal mining
operations at the Northfield Mine was considered complete for the purposes of filing. All review and comment periods as
provided in the Colorado SurFace Coal Mining Reclamation Act and the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Board far Coal Mining initiate from this date of filing.
The applicant Northfield Partners, LLC, proposes to conduct underground coal mining operations on land located
approximately 3 miles south of Canon City. The permit azea is further described as follows:
Portions of Sections l 1, l2, l3, 14, 22, 23, 24, Township 19 South, Range 70 West
Areas to be affected by proposed surface and underground operations are encompassed by the proposed Northfield permit
azea located in south central Colorado in Fremont County. The Northfield permit area is located approximately three miles
south of the incorporated Canon City. A limited area for mine support facilities and portals, located within the permit area,
will be constructed on the north side of Chandler Creek. The proposed mine access and haul road leading to the facilities
area will intersect the right-of--way of County Road 79 a distance of 0.52 miles east of the junction of County Road 79 and
County Road 11A.
The mine permit azea contains approximately 1,430 acres, bounded on the west by County Road 77 and its northern limit
approaches the south edge of the town of Brookside. Chandler Creek and County Road 79 bisect the permit area from
southwest to northeast. The eastern permit boundary crosses County Road 79 approximately 250 feet east of the entrance to
the aforementioned mine access road.
The above-mentioned tracts of land are shown on USGS 7.5 minute Quadrangle map of Canon City.
A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the Fremont County Courthouse, 615 Macon Avenue, Room B-5,
Canon City, CO 81212 and at the Division office. For additional information, to provide written comments, or request an
