Box 511
Aguilar, Colorado 81020
Re: Ash Disposal - File No. C-031-81
Dear Mr. Wiley:
The Division has received and reviewed the 9eochemical analysis of ash
submitted by Mr. Walt Beckwith of IBP.
This analysis indicates that the ash in question is very alkaline, making it
toxic to plants, and will mobilize many toxic metals and ions.
Therefore, if you wish to pursue a revision to your current permit, strict
attention must be given in the revision application to special handling of
the material at all times at the mine site and encapsulization of the material
in the backfilled pit. In addition, post-mining contours for the pit area
must be demonstrated to meet the requirements for approximate original countours.
If you have any geustions, please feel free to call me.
Sincerely,
~t,,,,.et.,,..-.
