' .~
' JUNE B ADEQUACY REVIEW
(~' Rule 2.04:5 General Description of Hydrology and Geology
=;
A surficial geologic map should be submitted for the proposed permit and adja-
t cent areas.
' Response: See Map 2a Energy Atine No. 3 Geology
' Rule 2:04.6(1)(b)(D) Chemical Analysis of Overburden
' The Division cannot find any geochemical analysis of the Lennox coal seam and
the adjacent overburden. This information is needed because the Lennox seam
will be spoiled in the western edge of the area proposed to be surface mined.
Overburden samples should be collected in the vicinity of well 008-78-27 from
the stratigraphically highest area of the proposed mining disturbance down to
' the stratigraphically highest unit sampled in well 008-78-7. Chemical analyses
of these samples should include both the chemical parameters specified in Table //
2 of the permit application and the parameters listed in the following comment.
Response: Because the volume of overburden overlying the Lennox seam is s~
' small (see the discussion under Rules 2.04.6 and 2.04.7) no samples of the ~
overburden above the Lennox at Energy 4tine 113 were collected. However, repre-
sentative analysis of the same stratigraphic unit at the Eckman Park Mine are
presented, as requested by MLRD personnel, in Table SOa Eckman Park Over-
, burden Analysis. The horizons in Table SOa which represent "the strati-
graphically highest area of the proposed mining disturbance down to the strati-
' graphically highest unit sampled in well 008-78-7" have been extracted from
analysis previously submitted under permit 79-177. These analysis show no
' significant problems with respect to toxicity.
The following chemical parameters should be added to the overburden geochemical
sampling list of Table 2: Fluoride, chromium and total combustable solids. All
overburden samples, both past and future, should be analyzed for these para-
meters.
~~j
-1-
