This letter will confirm the discussion at our
meeting regarding our concerns for receiving, as soon as possible,
approval for facility relocation and actual mining in an area directly
adjacent to our present Bear Mines No. 1 and 2.
Participating in the meeting on March 23 were the following
individuals:
• Floyd Johnson, OSM;
• Bennett Young, OSM;
• Fred Banta, Division;
• Dan Mathews, Division;
• William Bear, Bear Coal Company;
• Alan Czarnowsk'y, ACZ INC.
The basic purpose of the meeting was to discuss the status of approval
for our mine plan revision, the timetable to be undertaken by both
agencies to approve the revision, and the extremely critical necessity
for Bear Coal Company to receive the approval. The present urgency of
receiving approval from OSM and the Division cannot be understated
because of the real possibility of employee layoffs, production
curtailment, and market losses.
