Long
Dimsion Director
Jim Pendleton
"Additional ility Analyses, Proposed Portal
Road Cuts and Topsoil Pile, Bowie No. 2 Mine, Bowie,
Delta County, Colorado" (Permit No: C-96-083)
I have reviewed the above referenced additional geotechnical study, which you
forwarded to my attention. This study was prepared by MAXIM Technologies,
Inc., a geotechnical subcontractor to Morrison Knudsen, the primary design
contractor for Bowie Resources Limited (BRL). This study was prepared to
address adequacy comments included in my review memorandum addressing the
supplemental Maxim Technologies Geotechnical study, dated October 17, 1996.
This study was submitted by J. E. Stover & Associates, the permit consultant
for the Bowie No. 2 Mine. As I understand the situation, Jim Stover desires our
opinion concerning this additional geotechnical study, which he anticipates will
satisfy certain of my earlier supplemental adequacy concerns.
General Introductory Comments
The Maxim Technologies additional geotechnical study evaluates two specific
geotechnical adequacy concerns I expressed addressing the second geotechnical
study submitted by J. E. Stover & Associates. It reports stability analyses of
three representative critical road cut/fill cross sections. It also presents the
stability analysis results for two representative cross sections within the
proposed topsoil stockpile and its foundation. It uses appropriate laboratory
material shear strength values developed from specimens analyzed and reported
in the earlier reports.
