^ <br />MINING AND MINE METHODS. - <br />DEpE1;OPL7EI~T . <br />The main shaft is 6 feet by 8 feet in the clear, 500 <br />feet deep, tirbered with cribbing from the surface to a <br />point about 40 feet below the surface where the vein wea <br />out; from this point to the bottom, the shaft is sunk <br />on the vein and it has a dip to the treat of about 65 <br />degroea. ~'~ith the exception of a few atolls there is no <br />timber from the first level down. <br />the work is carried on at the present time in the 3rd and <br />5th levels. <br />HOISTIIIG: <br />The hoisting is employed by .moans of buckets. The men <br />are raised and lowered by means of hoisting machinery. <br />The weight of the load hoisted is one ton, distance <br />500 feet. The cable is a 7~8 inch round, crucible steel, <br />having been used three months. Safety chain and clamps <br />are used at the end of the cable. These have not been <br />changed for three months. <br />Do .safety device is employed Eo prevent over-winding. <br />'"aterial is hoisted from two levels. <br />ie, <br />use3 ~ <br />A 1~4 inch v;ire line attached to a six inch gong ie used <br />for bell line and signal bell. The State Code is employed. <br />This node of signals is posted inthe engine roo m, at the <br />coll ar of the shaft and each level station. <br />Persona are prohibited from riding on the loaded-' <br />~r bucket. This orer is posted near the collar of the shaft. <br />A notice stating the maximum number of men permitted to ride <br />upon oago, e~~c~ bucket at one time, is posted at the <br />collar.of the shaft and at each level station. <br />The Skids are made of 4in.% 6 in timbers. <br />All level atationa are not provided with paseagr way <br />around working shaft. The shaft is at all atationa provided <br />with guard rails and is secured by pillar of ground upon <br />eaoh side sufficient to secure safety. <br />hTI17E LIETHODS.
