MINING AND MINE METHODS. -

The main shaft is 6 feet by 8 feet in the clear, 500
feet deep, tirbered with cribbing from the surface to a
point about 40 feet below the surface where the vein wea
out; from this point to the bottom, the shaft is sunk
on the vein and it has a dip to the treat of about 65
degroea. ~'~ith the exception of a few atolls there is no
timber from the first level down.
the work is carried on at the present time in the 3rd and
5th levels.
HOISTIIIG:
The hoisting is employed by .moans of buckets. The men
are raised and lowered by means of hoisting machinery.
The weight of the load hoisted is one ton, distance
500 feet. The cable is a 7~8 inch round, crucible steel,
having been used three months. Safety chain and clamps
are used at the end of the cable. These have not been
changed for three months.

A 1~4 inch v;ire line attached to a six inch gong ie used
for bell line and signal bell. The State Code is employed.
This node of signals is posted inthe engine roo m, at the
coll ar of the shaft and each level station.
Persona are prohibited from riding on the loaded-'
~r bucket. This orer is posted near the collar of the shaft.
A notice stating the maximum number of men permitted to ride
upon oago, e~~c~ bucket at one time, is posted at the
collar.of the shaft and at each level station.
The Skids are made of 4in.% 6 in timbers.
All level atationa are not provided with paseagr way
around working shaft. The shaft is at all atationa provided
with guard rails and is secured by pillar of ground upon
eaoh side sufficient to secure safety.
