as they are detreloping some new workings. Some work is •
carried on in draining a tunnel from•Sgnirrel Qulch. This
is where the developmeat work is carried on•at present. The
portal of the tunnel is 6,242 feet from the vein. Yaps and
drawings are up to date. The hoisting plant is not in use
at present. The only buildings near the month of the tunnel
are a blacksmith shop and a cheage room, about 60 Yeet
distant. Ahen mill is in operation two tunnels-are used
in heading. ~ The method of timbering is square sets and
stulle covered with lagging. The timbers are pine and spruce
peeled and equated by hand. These timbers are sufficient
to secure safety. IInder ground tramming is done by mules.
One 17 1-3 cubic foot iron car is•used, on a 16 pound rail.
The avorage •amount of water dealt with is 900 gallons par
minute. A Qitch Se used to carry tho water away. One
Root's Blower is eaployefl in the system of ventilation, which
ie :cap6ble of displacing 1700 cubic feet per minute. At
present this seems sufficient. The old timbers have boon
removed from underground, which makes the sanitary conditions
first-class. The exlts which are always readily accessible
to employee are on *.ho 3rd and 4th levsle. Ace+,ylene lamps
are used for lighting underground.
