} <br />.7- <br />MINING qND MINE METHODS. <br />~ _ . _. <br />- ._ <br />.~. <br />Work is at present carried on in the 380 ft. level <br />:in Richmond Shaft No .2. _The ore is broken with s~sa]atxa <br />liZ single hand drilling, and hoisted by steam, over a skip <br />;road, the skip holding 1,000 pounds. The underground tram- <br />!ming is upon s 12 lb. T-rail track, 18 in. guage,with an <br />•iron scoop car. All timbers used are red spruce, soelad be- <br />fore putting into the mine. Ventilation is obtainod through <br />connection with Richmond shaft No. 1, on the 380 ft. level, <br />and by drifts and atopea,and is sufficient. The bell wire <br />:line is a No .9, galvanized wire. The distance hoisted 450 <br />.it., and the cable hsa bean in use 7 months. The state cads <br />of signals is followed, and pa notices prohibiting persona <br />riding upon loaded skip or bucket posted at the Dollar of <br />the shaft. The shaft is divided into three compartments; <br />the ladders are safe, securo and accessible, but no ae a_ <br />ondary exit is equipped with ladders. trndePg~ound lighting <br />is done by candles. <br />
