TABLE TWO -- FREMONT COUNTY <br />MINE NAME COMMENTS ON FEATURES <br /> <br />Beacon *: One vertical opening. Opening is over air shaft; 15' in diameter, 10' deep; nearly filled <br />(cont.) by soil, rock and trash; barbed wire fence around pit is in poor condition; less than 100' <br /> from county road. Access deterrence poor. <br />S: Four subsidence pits and one trough. First pit is 15' in diameter, 10' deep and overlies <br /> air shaft. Two pits are 15' in diameter, 2' deep and overlie rooms. Fourth pit is 25' in <br /> diameter, 3' deep and overlies hoist shaft. Trough is 75' long, 30' wide, and 8' deep; <br /> trends WNW. <br /> Reclamation for Bassick No. 2 and Beacon Mines: Project hazard abatement work in Spring <br /> 1983 consisted of backfilling the inclines using appropriate riprap, coal waste, and top- <br /> soil material. The hazardous shaft openings were also backfilled using a similar graded <br /> fill technique. All areas appropriate for revegetation were covered with a layer of soil <br /> material suitable for plant growth will be revegetated and fenced during the fall of 1983. <br />Big 3- *: Inclined opening; portal is 4' high, 3' wide, goes underground 100'. Opening is intact, <br />Dutch Oven portal and incline supported by timber props. Only access deterrent is flimsy wire fencinc <br /> across portal. <br />F: Mine fire. Coal in Big Three-Dutch Oven mine is on fire. Series of small vent holes alonc <br /> hill slope from ad it to a point 150' east of ad it. Vent holes exhaling steam and other <br /> gases. Largest vent 3' in diameter. <br />Bluff Springs *: One inclined opening.
