The surface of the moue- <br />tain is covered with a good supply of growing timber, <br />.Spruce and Balsam, A fairly good wagon road connects the <br />mine and mill with Ironton and ouray, %olorado a dis+.ance <br />of l0 miles to ouray. <br />G E O L O G Y, <br />A good geological survey has been made of this district, <br />The character of the country romk is Ansesite Brecc$a, <br />OR E ~ ORE B0D IE S' <br />The character of ore bodies is fissure veins. There is one <br />vein that has been worked upon very extensively, that is <br />the Barstow vein, the strike of this vein is N 45° W <br />and the diP 1s 50°S.W. , <br />The vein vanes in width from five to ten feet, length <br />3n00 feet, height for an average from Mo, I level to <br />surface 30o feet, <br />The character of enclosing rock is breccia, There are no <br />faults in the vein. ^he ore shoot in-the Bar~btow is from <br />500 to 1000 fe!°t 1n length. The character of vein filling <br />is country rock quartz arty sulphides. The metals ar_e gold, <br />silve~~ and Lead. A small portion of the vein is smelting <br />ore uvith and avera?~e of 50,00 per ton, the remainder is <br />concentrating ore with an average of X15,00 per ton. <br />The production is about 1550 tons a month, <br />~L <br />-2,- <br />
