ORE BODIES AND ORES.
j~ The veins of the Portland property are, like those
,~~` of the diatriot in general, numerous and rich, rather than extensive,
!` ~ The rich ore deposits of the mine, are not in one great vein, nor
in one system of veins. It is next to impossible to put all the
veins of the property into a class, or even enumerate them, as it
i
f I may be generally stated that there are more than fifty now opened
i.,.
up, and carrying ore in paying quantities, while small veins oon-
i twining rioh ore, but not in sufficient quantity, are almost with-.
If out number,
! ! A faint understanding of the conditions, naeess-
the
itatiea the above statement, but ford purpose of this report, we
will endeavor to classify and enumerate the veins according to
their position relative to the three main working shafts, that is,
P' shaft No, 1, shaft No,2, and shaft No, 3.
I
I Those adjacent to shaft No.l, situate on the
southern portion of the property, and through which same are oper-
ated, are, the Baby Ruth vein, N. L, of shaft, down to a depth of
i 225 ft., at which point it crosses same and passes to S,. S9,
~ Strike N, .'l, and S, E „ dip 60 degrees to S, l9„ average width,
5 ft,; Bobtail vein, N, E. of shaft, down to a depth of 300 ft,
at which point it crosses same, and passes to the S, w. PSost
of the vein being in granite below the 3b0 level, General strike
