T <br />Mine Inspector`s Report on The Emma Gold Mining Company Group <br />September 8, 1913 <br />SURFACE PLANT <br />t,'t <br />!i <br />I <br />f. <br />Page 2 <br />The surface plant consists of 2 boilers, 1-25 H.P., 1-150 H.P. One steam <br />hoisting engine 75 H.P. This is stationed about 100 feet from entrance of <br />tunnel in a frame building 30 x 60 x 40 with iron roof. One 16 drill air com- <br />pressor. All the above not in use just at present. <br />There is a blacksmith shop and office about 400 feet from lower or main tunnel. <br />EXPLOSIVES <br />40% giant powder, imported in solid Z.L. fuse and 5-x caps, wooden tamping bars <br />are used. Explosives in excess of one day's supply are not stored underground. <br />The average amount of explosives kept in storage is 1000 pounds. This is kept in <br />a log house with a dirt roof 300 feet from any buildings or tunnel and used for <br />this purpose only. Oils, candles and other combustibles are stored in the mill <br />store room. This mine is very warm; do not need any artificial powder thawer. <br />MINING AND MINE METHODS <br />I <br />The main opening is a tunnel on the vein 3300 feet long, this is the lower <br />tunnel. There are three more tunnels above this, 100 feet apart. They are all <br />connected by raises and atopes. Number 4 level is 2800 feet long. Number 3 <br />level is 2500 feet long and Number 2 level is 2800 feet Long. Number 3 level is <br />where work is carried on at present. Eoth drifting and stoping. All the ore is <br />dumped down to Number 5 level and then trammed to mill. The method of ore <br />extraction is overhand stoping and drifting by hand drills, some double and some <br />single hand. <br />The method of timbering le stulls and square seta covered with lagging. The <br />timbers are pine prepared by hand and are sufficient to secure safety. Under- <br />ground tramming is done by hand and mules. Steel care are used for tramming. <br />Chutes are loaded by hand and gravity. Tho system of ventilation iacondltlone <br />All old timbers have been removed from underground and the sanitary <br />are good. Candles are used for lighting underground. All levels are connected <br />by manways with four exits.
