Puzzlo No. 3
~ I -- ~ ~ "' CEOLOOY.
idividual The geology of thi_e dietrirt hoe been'nble
i
y covered by
Geological=Survey made by Frederick Leello Raneome. The
- formatio~l consists of bade of porphyry, shale and sandstone
s ar quartzite which are cut b
~ y porphyry dykes. ' The veins in
~ this property, which are twain number and are ]
i
cr
own ae the
- I Puzzle and Gold Duet Veineroccur se fissures far the most .part
tar ~
-
PYY,
in par h r which ie thought to be a dyke but in some places
' ono or bath walla of these veins is quartzite or metamorphosed
_ ~ sandstone. '
ie
V16RI{INGS .
' The main workings consist of a crass cut tunnel ?300 feet in
scan ' length which is cut 'by a shaft on the Puzzle Vein which is

]87 feet dsep.and by ¢ shaft on the Gold Duet Vein, which is
i
200 feet deep. 'The shafts start from the surface and go
din ! to the tunnel level. Neither of these shafts are now used
ver but they are equippsd erith ladders and afford exits from the
~r mine.
this The ground on these two veins is practically n11 stopes from
the tunnel level to the surface.
The work being done at the present time consists of driving
the main drift on the Puzzlo Voin to the northeast, and in
sinking the shaft on the Gold Duet Voin on below the tunnel
level. A station ie being rut at the tunnel level and a 10 H.P.
electrio hoist ie to be installed and the shaft from this paint
i on down wil]. bo operated ae a winzs. At the present time
this winzs is a distanao of 30 foot below the tunnel 1Qvo1
~ and nbout 30 fset'of drifting hss boon done in two directions
on the vein at this point. The prsasto of both these drifts
rt 10,000
have a Hies shotiving of galena ore.
' MINING AND TILIBLRIIIG.
' All mining is dons by hand and the system of timbering consists
~~ of square tunnel vote and cribs. The pumping is done by
house an Aldrioh Pleotrio Sinkin Pum with a cn ucit of 76
f, P P Y gnllone
a ! per minute. Tho mind at the present tlme ie makirifi mare thnn
wn of
60 gallons of water per minute but by the aid of a buclcot it
~! is thought that the winzo aan ho sunk fi0 foot deeper before
instn111ng another pump.
