MINING AND MINE METHODS. <br /> .The Chance shaft is a three compartment, 1,500 feet deep, <br /> vrith 13 .le'vels and connects at the bottom .with the TSolso.n tunnel. <br /> The first level Ss-200 feet from the surface. A11 of the others <br /> are about 100 feet apart. <br /> ..Nark is ,being carried on at tho present time on the 3rd., <br /> 5th., 6th., 9th. and 10th., levels. These worlcing.s on the 3rd. <br /> 4th,, end-5th. levels are in the old workings, and in the others <br /> in the same veins and underneath the old vrorkings. The maps and <br /> 'drawings are the same as the Nevr YDrk. <br /> The hoisting is done by tvo skips. Men are raised and lovrerad <br /> by the hoisting machinery. "leif_;ht of load 'hoisted about 3,000 lbs. <br /> Distance hoisted 1,500 feet. Tho cable is a oue inch, round steel, <br /> in good conditiony and ha.s been in use about six motttlzs. <br />' The cable is attached to the bail of the s'cip with clamps, <br /> which were •clranged about two months ago. There are no safety de- <br /> vices to prevent overwinding. The material is hoisted•from several <br /> levels. The bell lines ere two, 5~8 inch Tdanilla ropes attached <br /> to 10" and 12" gongs. They use their own code of signals which are <br /> posted at the collar of the shaft, in tho engine room, and at Bach <br />.o id ' <br /> level station.
