OFFICES OF
The Pharmacist Mining Company.
COLORACO SPRINGS, COLO., April 26, 7897.
ANNUAL REPORT OF' THE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER.
To the Stockholders of The Pharmacist Minna; Cof~zpnny:
GENTLEh1EN:
1 take pleasurz in submitting to you the fifth annual report of this company for the year com-
mencing on the first of April, 1896, and ending on the 25th day of April, 1897.
During the year the surface improvements consist of a substantially well-built shaft house SSxtoo
feet; of awell-arranged sorting house, 44 feet long, with conveniently arranged ore bins; commodious black-
smith and carpenter's shops; an office t2xi4 feet; a dry or miner's changing house, all heated by steam
and lighted by electricity, supplied by the Victor Vower and water company. The machinery all new, is
ample for a depth of 1,000 feet, and consists of an 8o•horse power boiler, a 12x14 steam hoist, a 4x6x4
snow pump, also availablz in case of fire with 300 feet of 1-2 inch hose. In fact all the requisites of
a first-class hoisting plant.
Thz developments during the year consist of a vertical, two compartment shaft 4'/..x9 in the clear,
known as the "Jones " shaft, sunk and timbered 360 feet deep. The management have often been com-
plimented by mining men as having one of the best shafts i1r the camp. It should be my policy to
continue sinking. At the first level, 290 feet deep, a cross-cut 27 feet to the west was extended, when
a north and south vein, hereinafter known as the "New Vein," was intersected. Adrift has deer extended
south of this point SOS feet; the vein has an average width of four feet and shows free gold and tellu-
ridz in the quartz on the foot wall for the entire distance. The dip of the vein is to the west. This
four feet of orz consist of mill and smelting ores in the proportion of 2 to I. Ii1 sinking the Jones'
shaft, thz ore was encountered at a depth of 2SO feet.
A drift has been driven north at this level 128 feet, the average of the vein being four feet and
at the present brzast there is a well defined vein in which fret gold can hz seen in the quartz, in places.
At this first level 237 fezt have bezn driven on the vein, and all in ore; in fact the driving of these two
drifts, with the upraises, have paid all the expenses of the mine since last December.
At 40 feet north from the shaft a raise communicates with a small prospect level 5o feet above,
which yieldzd well, although primarily intended for ventilation. The vein has been stoped north of the
shaft for i0 feet in length and within SO feet of the first level, the tonnage still standing is equal to 485
tons. North beyond the above 5o feet, the drift 50 feet in length, the vein is in virgin ground to the sur-
fact; thz estimated tonnage contained in that block is safely estimated at 2,300 tons.
~1_~
d
~~~. i
~`'
,.
~;
:i
