From drift off Freeland level there fs about an average height of nine hundred feet to the ~' $ •
eur(arc on this vein, this giving a goodbody of virgin ground of unproven value.
THE TOLEDO VEIN.
She Toledo vein,by many considered the northern extension of the Freeland-in my judg-
ment li is not-joins immediately on to the northern Freeland claim, and the workings on this
vein open aboutthree hundred feet north of the Freeland lower level. Tracks from the Free-
land :,ad Toledo leading to the same-ore house. The stri]<e of this vein is the same as the Free-
land, :end the general character of the vein and ore are the same.
"f i,e total•production of this mine, as indicated from smelter rehtnrs, is in excess of one hun-
dred '~bousand dollars. There is an undeveloped area between the Freeland and Toledo work-
ings lirom which were taken large ore bodies), which undoubtedly contains intersections of one
or more veins with the Freeland., which, while directly ttuder Trail Creek, iu my judgmeuq is
very food prospective ground.
ROYALTIES OVER y8,000 ANNUALLY.
'fhe other lodes are not sufficiently developed to warrant specific mention at present, aside
front the fact that they show some general characteristics, as Freeland, Toledo and Split veins,
and :u~e well worthy of [utttre attention. Acco riling to records shown mc, the average amount
of nnnrihly royalties for six months, preceding the present one, tvas slightly in excess of seven
hundred dollars. Under existing conditfons this showing is good, and with more ground opened
and nt lessees' disposal, this amount should be very materially increased.
WORK FOR MANY.
prom the best fnformatfon I can pick up, the ground is in good demand among the lessees
of that camp, and with wafer removed 6•om the Freeland, the present number of lessees (thirty-
five to forty) could probably be increased to seventy-five or one hundred wren. I noticed the
majority of miners working in this camp and the lessees at present working on fhe property to
be Cornishmen. The average wages here are $a.yo for nine hours' wort:.
(hre thing in all the workings examined which impressed me was the (act that very little
prospecting had been done off the three above mentioned veins. I was told by one man that
there were three distinct veins on the Toledo ground. I am positive of but one, bat consider the
u•uth of his statement not at all improbable.
A TUNNEI. SITE.
\\'hile engaged in surface inspection of ground in the vicinity of the Freeland group, as
abocr detailed, my attention was called to a tunnel site of[ Clear G•cek, near tlw town of t
llmnnm, projected under this group. This funnel opens onto the lice of the Culor:ulo &
Soul hero 12. R„ al a point where wafer power would be available from Clear Creel: kn milliog~ '.
and power purposes. A distance of about g,ooo feet from its present portal would cut the ~°
'1'olcdn vein on ifs dip to Clte west, attc! about G,goo feet would lake iC to a point directly under
the old ]~rceland shalt, at which poinC the tunnel wouLl be about t,3oo feel on the clip of the
vein 6,•ucxth the present shaft bottout of the Freeland,
COUNTINfi THE COST
I tvotdd consider $rgo, ooo a safe estimate For the cost of mt 8 ft, x 8 IG funnel to this point.
'1'hc Luc as projected would penetrate t} country which, h'Om SllffaL'C Imhcatjon5 noel work on
adja~ ~,n properties, is well crossed by mineralized veins, Its course is practically .d right
angle., to the general strike of fhe veins in this district. ]'.C would make possible a thorough
u
+.•
