The Gold Coin Shaft has three compartments; the shaft
'_ is 4-1~2 z 13 it. in the clear. 12~ feet deep, timver- l
ed with square seta. There are 12 levels and atstions; ,!'
j the stations are well timbered with square sets.
The work is being done at the present time on the Gold Ij~
Coin in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th levels: on the Granite 7

in the 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th levels; and on the
4th, 5th, 6th and 7th levels of the Dillon Cline.
The work is carried on is virgin ground and in the old '~
working. ,~
Hoisting.
The hoisting is done by means of cages i n all the shafts
except the Lonument. The men are raised and lowered by
means oY the hoisting machinery. The weight hoisted is
from 1800 pounds to 5 tons;~diatanoe hoisted 600 to
1000 Yeet.
There aro two 1~2 in. x b-1~2 in. flat oablea at the
Gold Coin Shaft and one inoh Round oruoible steel at
ell of the other shafts. The cable at the Gold ooin
has boon in uao throe months; at the Granite js yoars.
Safety ohain and clumps are used on the end of the cablo
at tho Ltonument; clamps at the Dillon and Humblo Hooka
at the Gold Coin and Granite. ht the Granite these were
ohangad one ye+~r ago. The Dace is equipped with bonnet
and safety olutchee which were (rested three months ego.
Tho Humble Safety llook is used to prevont ovorvriading.
Materiel is hoisted from aoveral le vols. A oager is
employed. The bell line is a 3~h in. hump rope attached
to largo gongs. also electriael bells and flash lights.
The Stato code of signals 1e employed. This Dods is
poetod in the engino room, at the Dollar of shaft and
at all level stations. kll parsons are prohibited from
