<br />MINING AND MINE METHODS. r~ <br />The Gold Coin Shaft has three compartments; the shaft <br />'_ is 4-1~2 z 13 it. in the clear. 12~ feet deep, timver- l <br />ed with square seta. There are 12 levels and atstions; ,!' <br />j the stations are well timbered with square sets. <br />The work is being done at the present time on the Gold Ij~ <br />Coin in the 5th, 6th, 7th and 9th levels: on the Granite 7 <br />1 <br />in the 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th levels; and on the <br />4th, 5th, 6th and 7th levels of the Dillon Cline. <br />The work is carried on is virgin ground and in the old '~ <br />working. ,~ <br />Hoisting. <br />The hoisting is done by means of cages i n all the shafts <br />except the Lonument. The men are raised and lowered by <br />means oY the hoisting machinery. The weight hoisted is <br />from 1800 pounds to 5 tons;~diatanoe hoisted 600 to <br />1000 Yeet. <br />There aro two 1~2 in. x b-1~2 in. flat oablea at the <br />Gold Coin Shaft and one inoh Round oruoible steel at <br />ell of the other shafts. The cable at the Gold ooin <br />has boon in uao throe months; at the Granite js yoars. <br />Safety ohain and clumps are used on the end of the cablo <br />at tho Ltonument; clamps at the Dillon and Humblo Hooka <br />at the Gold Coin and Granite. ht the Granite these were <br />ohangad one ye+~r ago. The Dace is equipped with bonnet <br />and safety olutchee which were (rested three months ego. <br />Tho Humble Safety llook is used to prevont ovorvriading. <br />Materiel is hoisted from aoveral le vols. A oager is <br />employed. The bell line is a 3~h in. hump rope attached <br />to largo gongs. also electriael bells and flash lights. <br />The Stato code of signals 1e employed. This Dods is <br />poetod in the engino room, at the Dollar of shaft and <br />at all level stations. kll parsons are prohibited from <br />riding on the loaded cage. T'niea order is poetod near <br />,. <br />the collar of shaft, <br />Eleotria Lights are used on the :.tatioae and Dandles in <br />drifts end etopes. <br />
