<br />Status of the Artesian Well (Supplement) <br />May 12, 2000 <br />Page 2 of 2 Pages <br /> <br />"During the time the mine is in operation, all surface runoff water passes through a sedimentation <br />pond and then in an irrigation ditch to a local ranch rather than dischazging into the creek. <br />Ground water is also dischazged into the same irrigation ditch to avoid entering the creek and <br />having any adverse effect on the aquatic biology." Page 154 <br />"However, the pumped water is returned to the stream afrer use by the Modas for irrigation." <br />Page 155 <br />"The highest water level observed inside the mine is 143 feet below the ground surface at the <br />portal. This level was reached afrer the mine had been shut down for about three days. The <br />operator claims that the water can rise about ] 0 to 15 feet higher if lefr undisturbed for much <br />longer period. Present mine operations aze over 150 feet below the surface."
