The pH of the slurry inside the mill is maintained at a pH of 10.5 to 11, which is the most
effective for extracting gold. The pH in the mill is checked once every hour to ensure its
not dropping and becoming less effective. When the milling is shut down for any reason
(idle, repair, etc.) the pH is checked every 2 to 3 hours.
The tails are neutralized in the mill at the end of the sand scraper by sodium hypochlorite
drip. They are mixed in the screw auger and discharged into the sump, where they are
checked every 2 hours for a pH level of 8, which is neutral. The method for checking pH
is pH paper and use of a pH meter. The length of time the tails spend in the sump is
approximately 40 to 60 hours. On occasion due to shut downs, repair, idle time, etc., they
may be in the sump up to 80 hours. It is emptied as soon as it is full.
The neutralization process remains the same procedure as it was by the former operator,
no changes have been made.
The weed problem noted last yeaz on the lower road has almost been eliminated, just a
few were Found this spring. They were sprayed with the same poison as last year in early
June. They were then pulled and dug up 10 days later. To date no new weeds have
appeared. I will continue to monitor this problem for any new growth.
Also, please find enclosed two letters pertaining to a bond reduction. One from Nancy D.
Lauro, planning director of La Plata Co. Appazently the building was never required to
be removed by La Plata Co. The other letter is from Bill Burris, the landowner, stating
his desire to keep the building as a permanent structure. Finally, the spring water analysis
results.
~~,Y /a3
AMES BENDER / D.G.M.C. DATE
