III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This former underground site is entirely reclaimed. Ground
conditions were dry but soft and the weather was warm.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond held water up to the invert of the primary riser tube and was
discharging slightly. The discharge was clear. The trash rack was intact and
clear of debris. Cattails now cover almost 100% of the pond area.
Processing Waste
The slope of the refuse highwall was traversed on foot. No sign of slumps, slides,
or damage was noted. Contour furrows appeared generally in good condition.
Revegetation
Annual weeds dominate the interseeded portion of the refuse highwall slope. The
annual weeds do provide some hydrologic cover. Warm season grasses have not yet
begun to set seed. Noxious weeds were not apparent. Soil moisture conditions are
good due to recent storm events. Dry conditions prior to recent rains limited
growth on the reclaimed area.
Overall, the site appeared in average condition for the summer season.
3
