The Fox Mine: (Permit # M-1977-219) <br />Map 1 • shows the general location of the Fox Mine where the geology consists of the strata <br />and clays of the Glencairn Formation, Dakota Group are being mined. Further, the map <br />shows, streams, roads, utilities, wells, all dwellings with in 3000 ft., and other structures. <br />There are two dwellings and wells exist within 3000ft. of the proposed blasting. A pre- <br />blast survey will be conducted and release aggreements signed. <br />Extensive published geological work has mapped the Dakota Sandstone Group with the <br />associated clays throughout Pueblo and surrounding counties. Near the middle of the <br />Dakota Group lies the Glencairn Formation, which contains shales and clays which have <br />brick making properties. Site specific geology indicates that the Dakota strikes <br />approximately N 5° W, and has a slight dip to the north-east, existing as a flatiron and <br />truncated by the Red Creek Fault trending approximately N 2° W. It is true that the <br />Dakota is a great aquifer and supplies mangy wells, the area of mining conducted by <br />Summit Brick at the surface and a great distance up gradient from the area where wells are <br />supplied from the base of the Dakota Aquifer. If anything, blasting of the surface Dakota <br />might enhance aquifer recharge. <br />2. The Stocks Mine: (Permit # M-1977-324) <br />Maa 22• shows the general location of the Stoks mine where the geology, very similar to that <br />of the Fox mine, consists of the strata and clays of the Glencairn Formation, Dakota <br />Group. Further, the map shows streams, roads, utilities, wells, all dwellings with in 3000 <br />ft., and other structures. There are dwellings and wells exist within 3000ft. of the <br />proposed blasting. A pre-blast survey will be conducted and release aggreements signed. <br />Extensive published geological work has mapped the Dakota Sandstone Group with the <br />associated clays throughout Fremont County. Near the middle of the Dakota Group lies <br />the Glencairn Formation, which contains shales and clays which have brick making <br />properties. Site specific geology indicates that the Dakota strikes approximately N 75° W, <br />and has a slight dip to the south-west, existing as an un-eroded island several hundred ft. <br />above the aluvium of Wilson Creek, and other surrounding formations. Local wells are <br />not producing from the Dakota Aquifer. <br />6 <br />
