III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Chimney Rock Coal Mine for the month of December, 1995.
The site was covered with a light film of snow on the north facing slopes. All other areas were
bare.
The only places on the site where any significant weed patches occur was in the sediment
basins and on the edge of some roads. These areas were inhabited by musk thistle and will
need to be sprayed with herbicide or otherwise controlled during the coming year.
An approximate .5 acre area on the southwest facing slope, above the Stolsteimer Creek repair
area, has been recently reseeded and mulched.
All ditches appear to be in working condition and all slopes and contour furrows appear to be
stable at the time of the inspection.
Deer tracks indicate a moderate use of the site for feeding. A golden eagle and a redtail hawk
were noted circling above the site,
Numerous young wood's rose, big sagebrush and rubber rabbitbrush were noted as new
additions to the revegetation becoming established on the backfilled slopes.
