A portion of the
stockpile area was covered by the toe of a recent slide which occurred on the west
side of the permit area. It is not clear at this time whether this area can be cleaned
up. R would appear that any earthwork done in this area would contribute to the
instability of the slope. The operator iwefaated the footprint material that had been
scraped would be hauled to the Sanborn Creek Mine, but that it could not be hauled
until stockpiled coal at the Sanborn Creek Mine had been cleared.
The access road to the portals and the portal bench had been regraded. The operator
intends to request a Phase I release for the portal area reclamation, and full release
for the structural demolition later this year.
Bear Mines November 20,1997 .
