(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-77-485
INSPECTION DATE: September 21, 2000 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: AIW
OBSERVATIONS
This was a normal monitoring inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG. There was no operator representative present
during the inspection. The site is located approximately 18.5 miles south of Pritchett, Colorado along County Road 13. The
pit is situated along the shoulder of a slope that drains off to the west into a nearby creek. The operator indicated that they
would like to expand this site from a 110 to a 112 operation.
The site was properly identified and boundary markers were clearly marked with small piles of gravel at each corner. The
highwall has been sloped and topsoiled along the east -southeast side. There is a small stockpile of screened material along
the southwest side of the pit. This site has been mined for gravel for many years and there is a fairly sizeable area adjacent to
and north of this permit area that is pre-law. The present permit area, as mapped and marked, is approximately 10 acres,
however, the application indicates that the proposed acreage o(affected land is for 4.1 acres. The present disturbance is
probably slightly beyond this, however, it is the Division's understanding that during the permitting process the county
believed that they were applying for a full 9.99 acre permit but submitted the amount of land that was disturbed at that time in
the "acreage of affected land" category. Due to the tremendous volume of permits being processed, many of the applications
were approved automatically withouf proper review. As a result, the permit was issued fora 4.1 acre permit instead of a 9.99
acre permit. The operator indicated that they wanted to convert this operation from a 110 to a 112 construction materials
operation. As long as this site is converted into a 112 permit, no additional paperwork will be required to correct this
deficiency. However, if the site is not converted into a 112 within 120 days, an amendment to the application will need to be
filed to correct the problem. It appears that there is plenty of reserve left beyond the present boundary and a conversion
would be an excellent idea since the Division no longer allows side by side 110's to be permitted by the same operator.
Since there is an administrative deficiency with this site, it is being cited as a problem on page three of this report. The
required corrective actions will be the submittal of this conversion or an amendment to the existing application. A conversion
application is being sent to the operator so that this process can begin.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Charlie Wait
OPERATOR: Baca County
STREET: P.O.
