The Simla Highway Pit ie permitted fQr a total disturbance of 6 acres. The poet-mining
land use ie rangeland. The pit ie currently active.
2. An entrance sign was posted and the permit boundary was adequately marked. All
disturbance occurred within the permit boundary.
3. Approximately SOi of the mineable deposit has been removed. Pit elopes are currently at
a 3:1 configuration. There ie a substantial amount of rill erosion on these elopes; however,
all sediment lose remains on site, in thb pit bottom. The exposed elopes consist of a very
erodable sand/fine gravel material. Thy Division ie not concerned with the existing soil
erosion at the pit. However, if the r~lle develop into gullies then the elopes will be
considered to be unstable and the operator will need to provide a plan to stabilize the
elopes.
4. All available topsoil has been salvaged and temporarily stored around the periphery of
the active pit. There ie also adequately stabilized with a vegetative cover.
5. The vegetative cover in the surrounding area contained primarily blue grama grass and
little blueetem. Prairie eandreed, eaod dropeeed, and needle 8 thread grass were also
present. The seed mix to be used duringfinal reclamation should include as many of these
species ae possible.
6. The reclamation plan specifies that final elopes will be graded to a configuration of no
greater than 4:1. The Division agrees wLth this commitment and recommends a elope of 5:1 or
greater due to the highly erosive natureiof the soil and overburden materials.
I & E Contact Addreee
NAME Mervin Caeev
OPERATOR E1 Paeo Countv, DOT
STREET 3460 Markaheffel Rd.
CITY/STATE/ZIP Colorado Sorinoe, CO 80922
cc: Jim Stevens, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
