III. Comments -Compliance
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of
observations made during the inspection. Comments also describe any
enforcement actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence
supporting the enforcement action.
On May 28, 1992 a complete inspection was conducted at the Canadian Stt•ip
Mine. This mine is permanently reclaimed. An exploration bond release
inspection was held concut•rently i/it}t this inspection. At the time of the
inspection the gt•ottnd was wet from recent rsins but the sky was clest•ing.
Present during the inspection was William Hill of Slurco, Jim Perry of BLM
Kremmling Office and Erica Crosby of MLRD.
The Mine entt•ance was mat•ked with appropriate signs. A tt•averse act•oss the
east facing reclaim slope to the north permanent impoundment was made.
Settling cracks above the reclaimed highwall wet•e noted. These have been
observed dut•ing previous inspections. The vegetation was greening up. A few
small (3"-5") Sage plants were noted. A healed gully was noted; the bottom
was lined with vegetation and the sides were rounded. No fresh evidence of
cattle were noted. Jim Perry said that one of the BLM range scientist had
noted several holes in the fence around the disturbed area. During the time of
this inspection some ranch hands were mending the fence on the east side of
the permit area.
About 75% of the bottom of the not•th permanent impoundment was covered
~•ith water. Cat tails or reeds wet•e coming up and frogs wet•e croaking. The
pond embankment appeared stable and well vegetated. There were sevet•al
inactive rodent burrows in the pond embankment. About 50% of the bottom
south impoundment was covered with water.
The exploration boreholes were inspected. A exploration inspection t•epot•t will
be written by Erica Crosby. Some of the holes will need additional work before
lability can be t•eleased. The records wet•e checked at the county court house
and were found to be in order. But they should be better organized.
