~"'~~~~~~~Yr~~~~ Uenvc r, Colorado 80203 Tcl. (3031 b:~335G/ III III III III IIII III
~... fS I 999
~Hamiet a. tsarry, iii,
Director
Colony Development Corporation
(No file No.)
September 19,.1979
On September 11, 1979, I made a site visit to Colony Development Corp.
site in Parachute Creek. The purpose of the visit was to see the areas
proposed for spent shale disposal for a full scale operation proposed
at Colony.
The application will not be delivered to our office for at least another
month. Mr. John Strawn of Colony provided a topographic map outlining the
areas proposed for dump disposal. He told me to be in touch with Ki
Biancia at the site. Upon arrival, I was able to contact Ki and after
a discussion determined that I could drop 6y to the mine site and on to
the processing and disposal sites on my own. 1 departed and got only
about a mile up Davis Gulch when I had a flat tire. At this point, I
walked on and got a general lay of the land, but was unable to see
in detail the areas of concern. I will have to examine air photos and
make another site visit with Mr. John Strawn of Colony at d future
date.
The road at this time is so bad that I would not attempt tq take a
State vehicle up there again. In general I was impressed with [he amount
of water in Davis Gulch for this late date in the summer, For this reason,
and for the reason of long term maintenance and flash flooding, l do not
believe that permit blockage of Davis Gulch by tailings is advisable as
a method of disposal. I have suggested to John that the material should
be placed in the upper reaches of the many tributaries to Davis Gulch .
with perhaps a few steep slopes, but in general a very large plateau
type of fill in the upper area.
!'~
