III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. Ron Thompson represented Basin Resources during the inspection.
This former underground mine is now reclaimed. Activities consist mainly of monitoring
and maintenance. The weather was hot and ground conditions were extremely dry.
Revegetation
Vegetation is dry but is well established. Weeds were recently mechanically removed
from most areas of the site. One exception is the pond 3 reclaimed area. This area has
a significant number of weeds, especially around the margin of the reclaimed area. This
area should be managed as a pasture during the reclamation liability period. The area
would likely benefit from mowing and integrated weed management, as appropriate.
Reseeded introduced species in the pond 3 area were alfalfa and smooth brome. Both
species were observed. Canada thistle, houndstongue, and ragweed were noted. The
operator has indicated that weed spraying will take place in the fall after temperatures
cool slightly.
Overall, the site is in good condition considering the extended dry weather.
Page 3
