(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-2002-® ®`t°{
INSPECTION DATE 9-12-2002
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS SSS
This was apre-operational inspection of the proposed Allen Pit mine site conducted to verify that permit application information
is accurate and complete in it's description of the site and surrounding areas.
Several fences located through and around the property were not shown on the application maps and may not be adequately
addressed in the application text. Specifically fences along the south boundary, along County Road 37.00 and that cross the
site proposed for initial pit development. Along culvert that transports the Gurley Ditch through the area of the access road
crossing and several hundred feet beyond has obviously been in place for several years and appears to be stable. It is
constructed of several cylindrical tanks welded together with the ends cut out of them. This "culvert' has also been overlooked
on the application maps and possibly in the text. The welded joints in this pipe have a 4-6 inch lip that could cause debris to
jam and possibly clog the pipe, potentially flooding and eroding the site. The pipe will need to be inspected regularly to ensure
debris does not build up inside it.
The adequacy review for this site will address the need for additional information and map corrections regarding these features
The majority of the proposed permit area east of the powerline is nearly devoid of vegetation apparently due to overgrazing.
Some Russian knapweed was noted along with an abundance of common purslane.
Topsoil appears to be thin across the east end of the site with gravel evident across the surface. Prairie dog holes, mostly
abandoned, show the thin soils with gravel making up the prairie dog mound.
The area to be occupied by the initial 6.5 acre development is apinyon-juniper and sagebrush flat that extends to the canyon
rim. Vegetative cover in this area appears normal for this area, and was apparently not recently overgrazed as was the area
east of the fence that crosses this site.
A few large cottonwood trees are located along Gurley Ditch and should be protected if the proposed mining plan is adhered
to.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Steve Shuey at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rtl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone number 970-243-6368.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME Dave Andrews ^ BL
OPERATOR Maverick Sand and Gravel ^ FS
STREET P.
