III. CommentslCompliance
This was a partial inspection conducted by Jim Burnell of CDMG on April 19, 2006.
Weather was cold (14 F) and windy with light snow the night before. The mine site was
deserted and quiet.
There was approximately an inch of snow on the main mine site. The road was frozen under
the snow and in good condition. There was some down-cutting along the road at the highest
topographic point. Rock check structures seem to be working to arrest down-cutting of the
road ditch along the Marr pit area.
The sign at the mine entrance was updated to include the proper address for the location of
mine records in Steamboat Springs. The gate was locked.
Pond A contained water at a level 8 inches below discharge. The dam structure was stable
and the emergency spillway was clear,
Pond B contained water 36 inches below the discharge level. The dam structure was stable
and the emergency spillway was clear. There was minor erosion noted at the bottom end of
the drainage leading to pond B.
Pond C contained a low level of water and was frozen over. The dam structure was stable
and the emergency spillway was clear.
Pond D contained water to approximately 3 inches below the discharge level. The dam was
covered with a thick stand of wheatgrass. The emergency spillway was clear. There was
some erosion down the North-facing slope from the facilities pad to the pond.
Pond E contained water just below the weep hole. The dam was stable and the emergency
spillway was clear.
Pond F contained water below the discharge level. The dam structure was stable and the
emergency spillway was clear.
Pond G contained a small amount of water and the dam structure was stable. The
emergency spillway was clear.
Signs on the topsoil piles for ponds F and G were not found and appear to have been
knocked down. Please erect the topsoil signs again on these remaining piles.
The 720 pit area slopes were stable, although there was some minor erosion along the slope
facing the upper end of ditch PD-1, along aseldom-used old two-track road. The upper end
of ditch PD-1, on the steep east-facing slope, appeared the same as last fall with some
minor down-cutting, but nothing greater this spring.
At the Marr pit area, there was some erosion down the east-facing slope.
The slopes of the pit 1 area appeared stable.
There were Canada geese nesting in one of the the nestboxes constructed at Pond D
